We invite attendees to use this briefing document to stimulate your thinking in advance of the discussions during the Summit. The document raises the following three questions :
What distinct skills, knowledge, and dispositions enable students to better contribute to the public good? What should we be teaching our students if we want them to actively devote some of their lives to serving the public?
How can these be taught through a liberal arts undergraduate education? When and where can we effectively teach the skills, knowledge, and dispositions that lead our students to better contribute to the public good?
How do we better communicate our commitments and our work to students and the public? How do we address concerns that our institutions are not committed to serving the public good?
